Rewiring the Brain. Resolving the Past.
Specialized EMDR to update the neural pathways where trauma stays stuck.
How does EMDR Therapy affect the brain?
Our brains have a natural way to recover from traumatic memories and events. This process involves communication between the amygdala (the alarm signal for stress events), the hippocampus (which assists with learning, including memories about safety and danger), and the prefrontal cortex (which analyzes and controls behavior and emotion). While many times traumatic experiences can be managed and resolved spontaneously, they may not be processed without help.
Stress responses are part of our natural fight, flight, or freeze instincts. When distress from a disturbing event remains, the upsetting images, thoughts, and emotions may create an overwhelming feeling of being back in that moment of being “frozen in time”. EMDR Therapy helps the brain process these memories, and allows normal healing to resume. The experience is still remembered, but the fight, flight, or freeze response from the original event is resolved.
Therapy Intensives Specializing In:
Trauma Therapy
Identifying past traumatic events using EMDR promotes resolution of the trauma by shifting the Irrational Negative Cognition to a Rational Positive Cognition – “I am good enough.” What would your life be like if you truly believed you were good enough?
Grief and Loss Therapy
The use of EMDR Core is an effective method to reprocess grief and loss of a loved one. Especially when focused on the sadness and loss of connection. What would your life be like if you could move on from your sadness and find joy, peace, and contentment?
Addiction
Trauma and addiction are deeply connected. With EMDR, you can work on both at once and finally step out of the cycle of relapse, shame, and self‑blame — and the pain it creates for the people you love. Imagine a 3‑day intensive focused entirely on your healing. You deserve that kind of care.
Self-Esteem
Our beliefs shape how we live. If I believe I’m not enough, I’ll move through the world as if that’s true — choosing people and situations that reinforce the lie. But it is a lie. You were born good enough. EMDR helps shift those old, irrational beliefs so you can stop sabotaging your life and start living from your true worth.
About
Melinda Sullivan, LCSW/LADC
My Background & Expertise I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor (LADC) with over two decades of experience helping people navigate the complexities of trauma and recovery. As an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant, I specialize in the neurobiological process of rewiring the neural networks associated with PTSD, anxiety, mood disorders, and addiction.
My Approach: You are the Center of the Process I believe therapy works best in a non-judgmental space where you feel safe enough to be vulnerable. My practice is deeply person-centered, meaning we work at your pace, focused on your specific goals.
When trauma occurs, the brain can get stuck in a "survival loop," reacting to the present as if the past is still happening. Together, we work to update and rewire the neural networks that have kept you in this cycle. It is an honor to witness the moment those loops finally break, making room for the life you actually want to lead.
The EMDR Intensive: A Dedicated Path to Healing.
Choosing an EMDR Intensive is an investment in your healing timeline. By condensing months of traditional therapy into three focused days, you are choosing a breakthrough over a check-in. It’s an invitation to step away from the noise and replace persistent fear with genuine self-acceptance.
